Knowledge is power

When I first became pregnant, I was one of those people that I loved to have as much knowledge as possible, especially on things that were the unknown. Like pregnancy and birth, I understand that for some people they feel that ignorance is bliss, but I do encourage when it comes to pregnancy, labour and birth for people to read and gain insight and knowledge from reliable sources and evidence based teachings and articles. I found it really powerful as well watching positive birth videos, both vaginal and caesarean so I was aware of how both could look, it definitely took away an element of fear or anxiety for me. It’s why I enjoyed Hypnobirthing so much because I really liked that element of knowing what I could control, or at least what was in and out of my control. I could control my mind and my mindset, and then my body would follow suit.

There is a great sense of empowerment in being equipped with knowledge, and this also brings a sense of calm and confidence as well, which is so important during pregnancy and the journey towards birth and beyond. Because this is such a huge life changing event, becoming pregnant, giving birth and then also becoming a parent. I also encourage my clients and anyone I meet! to do their own research, ask questions and also feel informed enough to make decisions that feel right for you, your body and your baby.

Birth needs to be talked about more there is nothing shameful or taboo about birth, and another important thing is to share more of the positive stories of birth to then help to dispel as much fear and worry around birth as possible.
