Induction of labour

This is a huuuuuuuuge topic and something that always comes up time and time again with clients.

If you are being offered an induction use the B R A I N acronym to navigate how to ask questions so you can make sure you are fully informed in making a decision that is best for you. Inductions are not ‘bad’ they are sometimes offered a little too early or perhaps without the birthing mother and partner knowing more about what an induction entails and how it works and affects your own birthing hormones. There are pro’s and con’s to various medical interventions. Take a look at the why induction matters book by Rachel reed it really is a great source of knowledge.

B – what are the benefits
R – what are the risks
A - there alternatives I can look into?
I – Intuition – what is your own mothers intuition?
N- Nothing – what if you did nothing for the time being?

It is important to use this as a guide in asking questions and feeling heard as well, you are always within your rights to also refuse an induction. Take your time to discuss and think about what is best for you, your baby and your body. You are the decision owner no one else!
