Happy New Year

It’s a new year, and perhaps a whole new journey for you into parenthood, perhaps you have just found out you are pregnant and expecting this year, or maybe you are planning to have a family in the next couple of years. I believe this year is a year full of hope and excitement! So this year for me, is going to be about GROWTH, we are always learning and growing getting to know ourselves more and more, and becoming even more aware of who we are, especially now I am a mother myself. I have recognised (sometimes the hard way) the importance of self care and compassion, so one thing I want to focus on is giving myself some more time and grace to do the things that really bring me joy (outside of being a mum) So for me that is singing, dancing, being out in nature, spending time with friends running and yoga. So I am wanting to take more time for myself this year in a way to support my own mental and physical wellbeing, and in turn becoming the best version of myself for my children and family too.

They say you can’t pour from an empty cup and I do believe when I first became a mum, I didn’t really allow myself that time and that space - because I felt guilty, I felt it was selfish and I thought asking for help made you incapable. But I am writing this post because I am SOOO passionate about how actually it is the opposite. We have to learn to take greater care of ourselves when we become parents because little ones are dependent on us and asking for help is so needed, take all the support love and help you can. Little eyes are always watching us, learning from us and needing us and your good habits can rub off on them and also its really great for your children to see that you have other interests and loves outside of being their parent. When we are stressed, burnt out and exhausted, we can’t be there for them in the best way. So its important to focus on - the small things that bring us joy and help us to feel better within ourselves.

Now this can be something so small, incremental habits daily that will compound over time to make a bigger impact, for example, drinking more water daily, spending 5 minutes meditating (if you can get a moments peace!) going outside for a walk or some exercise and being in nature. Taking care of your gut health with a really good probiotic - also important for your immune system and brain gut function. So let this be a reminder, that if you are going to have a baby this year or if you have already got children to really make sure you check in with yourself and make a conscious effort to do things for YOU.

It is NOT selfish. It is necessary for YOU to be the BEST and give your BEST. So start this year with an intention that will be a positive catalyst as the year goes on. I know I am going to! So I hope this has inspired you too!
